It doesn't happen all the time that one of the biggest bands in America hails from your hometown. As Louisvillians, we're lucky that way. My Morning Jacket kicks off their full support tour for the excellent "Evil Urges" album at our own Waterfront Park on August 16.

East Market street has become an awfully cool place to see and be seen in the past few years. With eateries, galleries, and great places to cool your heels, we could think of no better place to gather before My Morning Jacket rocks us on the Great Lawn. So we got together with our friends at Jenicca's at 636 East Market to put together a good time for all.

My Morning Jacket will take care of the party when they play their 3-hour set for thousands of fans on August 16, but when the show is over and the crowd disperses, Louisville.com invites the crowd to our afterparty on the rooftop of the Glassworks building on West Market at 9th street.

It's ambitious territory for the group's fifth full-length studio album, and it's matched by the most far-ranging, suprising, and satisfying sounds of their career. From the freak-funk electro-slam of "Highly Suspicious" to th contemplative "Sec Walkin' ", which could almost be a Nashville standard, on Evil Urges, My Morning Jacket display the scope and fearlessness that demonstrates their growth into one of the world's great rock & roll bands.
