The sound of the "Call to the Post" is back again in Louisville and what better way to kick it off, than receive the new 2009 Churchill Downs Calendar! The American Cancer Society’s 11th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer non-competitive, family-friendly, 5K walk will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2008. The event will have a rolling start which allows walkers to arrive anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to register and begin the walk. The walk begins and ends at the Waterfront Park in Downtown Louisville. We’ve made great strides against breast cancer, but our crusade won’t end until we find the cure. Join us! Holidazzle 2008 at The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft on West Main Street, Louisville will feature a recent series of contemprary basket sculpture by Dennis Shaffner. Woven in rattan and often embellished with buttons for color and surface design the new BIRDnest forms evolved from his signature BASKETbowl sculptures featured in the Museum Gallery on West Main. Shaffner has been represented by KMAC since 1983 and studied traditional Japanese basket making with fiber artist and author Hisako Sekijima at Brookfield Craft Center in Connecticut.

Hundreds of reenactors, mock battles, entertainment, music, food like our ancestors ate plus a village of 1800's craftspeople selling their wares.

The races are on October 25 and 26. The Races will be held at the old River Road Country Club, which is at the corner of River Road and Zorn. There will be food, drink (including beer), an expo area, and great cyclocross racing. This event will draw the best cross racers in the US plus international racers. If you or any of your friends may be interested in taking a Concealed Carry Deadly Weapons Class, please let me know. I am a certified as an Instructor by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training to offer classes. The goal of the class is to learn more about firearms and other "deadly weapons." After taking the course, you may be eligable to obtain your concealed deadly weapons permit allowing one to carry concealed. You may receive a certificate of training from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training after the course.
